On September 28, 2008, the sports metropolis of Berlin will be celebrating a fabulous anniversary. When over 40,000 athletes set off on the fastest marathon course in the world, cheered on by a million spectators and more than 70 live bands, the 35th real,- BERLIN MARATHON will once again captivate the German capital.
Participating in the 35th real,- BERLIN MARATHON means a lot more than just running the same 42 kilometres together with the fastest athletes in the world, however. Experiencing the fantastic atmosphere along the course and running through the Brandenburg Gate and past the grandstands the last 400 metres to the finish line make this euphoric marathon race an unforgettable experience for everyone. NEWS - 22.07.2008World Record Holder Haile Gebrselassie Makes a Commitment to Return Once Again to the real,- BERLIN MARATHON
For the third time, Haile Gebrselassie will once again be competing in the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON. On September 28, 2008 , after his victories in 2005 and last year (in a world-record time of 2:04: 26), the Ethiopian world-class runner will again attempt to complete the flat course through the city centre faster than any man before him. With Gebrselassie’s announcement in the spring that due to the expected climatic conditions in Beijing he would not be participating in the Olympic Marathon, the first signs of a possible start in Berlin were emerging. As early as never before the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON has sold out as it has reached its participant capacity of 40.000 entries. The race, which is celebrating its 35th running this year on September 28th, has been the stage of five world records (men and women) in the last ten years. The current world record mark of 2:04:26 by Haile Gebrselassie was set on the flat and fast Berlin course last year. More...
NEWS - 30.09.2007Nicolas Iten and Hilde Goovaerts win the 34th real,- BERLIN MARATHON for Inline Skaters
The wet and rainy course could not hinder them: Nicolas Iten from Switzerland and Hilde Goovaerts from Belgium captured victory at the world’s largest inline marathon in Berlin. Despite the pouring rain, about 150,000 spectators lined the course and cheered on the just-for-fun and pro skaters. The race was a success from a medical standpoint as well: There were considerably less injuries than in the years prior. More...
NEWS - 30.09.2007Haile Gebrselassie breaks world record in 34th real,- BERLIN-MARATHON
This was his seventh attempt at the marathon, and Haile Gebrselassie finally succeeded in one of the objectives he set himself when he launched himself into the 42.2k race five years ago. He broke the world record in the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON today, running 2.04.26, taking 29 seconds off the record of friend and rival, Paul Tergat of Kenya, who ran 2.04.55 in this same event in 2003. “This was something special,” said the 34 year old Ethiopian immediately after he emerged from a scrum of photographers, water dripping from his face from the bottle he upended on himself at the conclusion of his run on a cool and overcast Berlin morning.
