37th real,- BERLIN-MARATHON on September 25th/26th 2010
40.000 runners and around 8.000 inline skaters will fill the streets of the German capital on the last weekend in September. The course is known as the fastest in the world, the crowds are legendary, the atmosphere is hard to top at this most international marathon in Europe. The course of the marathon is one big sightseeing loop through one of the most exciting cities in the world. Unforgettable moments will forever be remembered, especially when running over the final part of the course on the Avenue Unter den Linden through the Brandenburg Gate and past the grandstands on the last 400 meters to the finish line. Early as never before, on April 20th, the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON has sold out its 40.000 entries. Less than a thousand bib numbers are left, all of them are charity entries for 142,195 Euro of which 42,195 euro are used to substitute childhood poverty in Germany (RTL Spendenmarathon). Robert Kiprono Cheruiyot of Kenya ran away from the field to set the Boston Marathon course record, and Teyba Erkesso of Ethiopia won by just three seconds in a thrilling women's finish, as the 2009-10 World Marathon Majors series resumed on a sun-splashed Patriots' Day. Cheruiyot ran the course in a blistering 2 hours, 5 minutes, and 52 seconds, besting the mark of 2:07:14 set by Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot (no relation), also of Kenya, in 2006. More...

Once again this year, the real,- BERLIN MARATHON made for an excellent skater festival. Who was paying any attention to the World Championships in China? The pros from the World Inline Cup did not look as if they were feeling like they were in the wrong place, at least. Everyone who participated completely enjoyed the enthusiasm and attention from the spectators. The Ethiopian duo of Haile Gebrselassie and Atsede Habtamu Besuye earned maximum points in the World Marathon Majors (WMM) rankings with their double success in the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON. While Gebrselassie achieved his fourth victory in a WMM race, Habtamu completed a dream debut: on her very first appearance in a WMM event she collected 25 points.

Haile Gebrselassie won the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON for the fourth year in succession this morning. But having reached for the stars with a ferocious attempt to break his world record of 2.03.59, set in the German capital last year, the Ethiopian ended up with a handful of moondust, finishing in a jog of fatigue in 2.06.08. “I was very tired, I pushed too much,” he said immediately afterwards. Due to technical problems with trains public transportation in Berlin is working on limited capacities. Please, check with your hotel and/or travel group management, and plan for more time on race day morning. Trains are running less frequently than normally. Problems occur only at lines of the S-Bahn.
